align performance & potential

A 12-week performance system for ambitious rugby players

guiding young aspiring rugby athletes to develop the identity, habits, and approach required to reach their potential.

the gap

TALENT and EFFORT don't always translate to performance. Here's why.

effort without direction

Training hard without knowing what to improve or why it matters.

chasing outcomes

Judging performance only by results, not behaviours and growth.

Unclear purpose

Lacking a clear “why” that guides decisions and effort over time.

setbacks disrupt momentum

Mistakes or omissions linger longer than they should.

inconsistent habits

Daily actions don’t match the player they say they want to become.

development without reflection

Training and playing without reviewing what’s working or why.

patrick sowerby

Hey, I’m Pat Sowerby, the founder of the Pillars Performance System.

I’ve spent more than 15 years in rugby across club, semi-professional, and professional environments - and like most players, my journey hasn’t been a straight line.

The toughest parts weren’t physical. They came from uncertainty, doubt, and not having systems in place to guide me when things weren’t going my way.

What changed things for me was clarity — around my role, my standards, and how I responded to stress. That clarity shifted how I prepared, how I competed, and the trust I earned from coaches.

The Pillars Performance System exists so young players can find that clarity earlier — and have their work actually show up when it matters.

WHY choose the pillars performance system?

Experience inside today’s rugby pathway

Insight shaped by the pressures, expectations, and selection realities players face now.

Mentoring, not volume coaching

Genuine care for each player’s progression, not a one-size-fits-all program.

A bridge between coaching and performance

Supporting coaches by improving reliability, trust, and decision-making.
